Hi,

I recently bricked my PogoPlug by editing /etc/passwd and changing the shell. I decided to give this a go so at least I could get it booted and have access to it.

I got a spare HDD and did all the partitioning, I then followed the instructions clearly. I am using power from an external power source to power the HDD and have the SATA cable plugged into the PogoPlug Pro.

When it turns on, it starts blinking, but then just stops blinking and turns off. Since these things are fairly cheap I don't mind if its permanently bricked, but I would like to get it working.

Is there anything I am doing wrong?

By "off" you mean LED stops flashing?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'B')y "off" you mean LED stops flashing?

Yes, just turns off. However the ethernet LED is still on.

I tried both kernels, the nopci one does not turn any front LED on.

using the nopci, after that LED turns off, check your dhcp listing on your router, see if there is a device present.

Might be an issue with the LED module. That sometimes presents like that.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'u')sing the nopci, after that LED turns off, check your dhcp listing on your router, see if there is a device present.

Checked DHCP table after both, nothing.

Used PCI = Flashing LED before turning off completely
Used NON-PCI = No flashing LED.

Here is what I have done, I found your instructions fairly confusing with what step todo one after eachother.

I don't know if this has anything todo with it, but when writing the kernel image without partitioning with disk_create. I never got an error. And I noticed there was now a /dev/sdb1 file.

Then you have a partitioning problem.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'T')hen you have a partitioning problem.

Actually that file would explain why it always wrote the kernel at 300MB/s which would be impossible over USB 2.0

I will try comment out the kernel flash for the first time, then run it after I have partitioned.

I will give it a go later, if it turns out that was the cause, sorry for being a pain and posting here.

Not a problem :)

Better to ask than to storm around pissed off at me for something goofy.

Is it possible to boot from SATA harddisk with 4096 bytes per sector? I bought SEAGATE BARRACUDA GREEN 1TB ST1000DL002 with 4K sector, re-ran procedures from first post several times, and my pogo won't boot from sata :-(

Unfortunately, after getting my disk, I noticed what WarheadsSE post http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2146#p11531 that stage1 and u-boot are prepared for 512 bps disks.

Anyone had experience with harddisk like mine?

It may or may not be possible. You may have to forcibly alter the script to insist on bs=512 to make sure it places it where stage1 & uboot expect everything to be. I don't have a spare 4K drive to test it on at the moment, but I know that I booted from sata with an SSD that had 4K sectors at one point.
