WiFi via USB on V4?

Postby caderoux » Sat Sep 29, 2012 12:38 am

I have a spare Pogoplug v4 which would be nice to have in a location away from my wired network. I could use a wireless bridge, but since that requires yet another power outlet and uses up the bridge and is a completely other box I was wondering if there are any USB WiFi dongles which people have had success with?

Basically, I would be thinking of putting in a small USB key in the top port for the boot drive and a USB WIFi dongle in one of the rear ports. This would still leave the SATA, one USB and the SD card slot free as convenient ports for connections which would be useful for the intended use I am thinking of.

I guess another possible use would be routing/bridging/repeating using the USB Wifi dongles, but I'm not really looking at that aspect.

All of the above should be doable.

Good, I have selected the ASUS USB-N10 as people appear to have had success with Arch on the Raspberry Pi as well.

I can confirm that the Asus USB-N13 works well too, although I compiled the driver from Ralink's source. They've been all but giving away new and refurbished ones at Newegg. Now I'll be able to put my Pogoplug away in the closet, where my wife will be less likely to complain about it. ;)

I ended up setting up another router as a bridge, since I decided I wanted to be able to have a backup router and to freely plug in more Ethernet devices on this workbench. But I'll keep that model in mind.
