Rebuilt filesystem not booting

Postby loginimpaired » Sun Oct 07, 2012 6:06 am

Hi all

I burned my system during an update - pacman removed some important packages and left me with a system that couldn't run /bin/ls, much less something more important. I decided to rebuild the filesystem. I removed the partition on my USB and recreated one, and untar'd the latest onto the new filesystem. Now when I boot, all I get is the 20 second blinking and light off that indicates the boot was probably ok but the network didn't come up or something like that.

I'm trying to get some debug information. The log files aren't updating, so I don't see syslog messages or dmesg or anything else. I've tried putting various commands in the rc.local, including a halt to get the system to come down immediately, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can find out what's going on?

Thanks!

Add this to rc.local
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
sleep 10
halt
')

That should shut it down and give it time to save the logs.

Thanks WarheadsSD! Gave that a try, but still nothing. Any other ideas about what I can try?

Hi all

I've tried a few things. Boot in a separate partition, ext2 v ext3, old filesystem tars... any ideas at all?

I'm having the exact same problem.

I'm trying to rebuild the system in a new flashdrive. I followed the exact instructions from the website. However, when I boot, my pogoplug blinks the green light for a few seconds, together with the flashdrive light. After twenty seconds, the green light turns off and I can't access my pogoplug by ssh or ping. No logs are created, even by including "sleep 10" and "halt" in rc.local.

I tried copying the files from the old flashdrive to the same partition created on the new flashdrive, and everything works. Except that it is the old system, of course. Therefore, I suspect that the problem is with the new system tarball released.

You probably didn't update the kernel in nand.
