NEW ARMv5te RootFS with Systemd (Please Test)

Postby xenoxaos » Sat Nov 03, 2012 10:59 pm

I've recently updated the ARMv5te RootFS. This update brings all packages up to date, bypassing any issues with /usr/lib etc, as well as sets up Systemd as /sbin/init so you don't have to!

Please test it out and leave your comments here!

I'm running 3.6.4-1-ARCH now. Did you post something different?

The only issue so far apart from some previous update "news" was that some AUR packages didn't move to systemd yet, so not sure how to autostart their daemons, since rc.conf is missing. :) Another issue is many ArchLinux Wiki articles aren't updated yet either, so its hard to grasp the proper action with new packages, systemd services names, etc.

We will most likely NOT update any ARMv5 rootfs beyond 3.1 because of the uboot issue. The main difference is that the packages installed are up to date....as well as systemd is enabled.

I get no ssh access and there's also an error about a Display manager in kernel log. I'll get a more detailed message when I re do my stick as I broke the whole installation after trying to enable ssh. :)
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[ 23.099561] systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service, ignoring: Unit display-manager.service failed to load: No such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status display-manager.service' for details.')

Another interesting part is that I don't get anything over serial when kernel starts while netconsole works.

Ok, it booted up after removing uInitrd and reverting uBoot to its defaults.
Still, there's no logging to serial after kernel has taken over
upgrading to linux-kirkwood (3.6.4) results in an unbootable system

Putting my sata drive back I get logging over serial back and kernel 3.6.4 boots up just fine. :|

moonman, can you try this, and reboot
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'ln -s /etc/systemd/system/serial-getty-fterm\@.service /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/serial-getty-fterm@ttyS0.service')

Tthanks pepedog but I think I figured out what the problem is: after messing with uboot somehow the equal sign got lost in consol=$console so it was "console $console". Of course I never touched the sata_set_bootargs so it was booting fine from my sata drive and i had console :| Sorry for the false alarm. I better go to bed because it doesn't help being tired.

Also, I think that as most arm devices don't have a realtime clock a package is needed along the lines of fakeclock, and an ntpd service
I think this could be adapted http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=21765
I have been working too on a new rootfs, don't get "Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service" myself

Got everything working finally. Yes, everything works with this rootfs tarball. It didn't work at first because of my own mistakes and some details only relevant to my particular setup. I still get that display manager error but it's not life-threatening :)
