[SOLVED] Unable to boot after pacman -Syu on fresh install

Unfortunately, I cannot test another SD-card right now.
I'm using the model B with 512 Mb RAM along with SanDisk Ultra SDHC 16Gb SD-card.

If I just write the 2012-09-18 image to it, it works great. Raspbian Wheezy works great as well.
So I don't think there's anything wrong with the SD card.

However, is there any definitive workaround for this? It seems different users have different ideas on solutions. (None of which has worked for me tho).

Ahaaaaa,
Another poster that has a SANDISK Ultra 16G that won't take the updates.
Raspbian uses a different method to update kernel and firmware, sooner or later (if not now) they will be affected too, bootcode and start.elf are blobs we share, their image predates the newer bootcode.bin by just a few days. Anyone with this problem run rpi-updater on raspbian?

I am the other user having problems with this SD card
I had the same symptoms. I tested new images pepdog made for testing and it would not boot unless I replaced bootcode.bin with the one from last september's image.

However, I tested the image on two other SD cards and it works like a charm (SANDISK Extreme 16G and Sony UHS-1 16GB).

So it's actually my SD-card that is the problem?
In that case, how is it that the SD-card can affect this? I mean, what's the hardware-software relation that differs from other SD-cards?

And also, what is the maximum throughput for the SD-card? Will I benefit from having a 30Mb/s? 95Mb/s?

As for how and why it affects this, I cannot answer.

As for the performance question, have a look here: http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards#Is_this_reliable.3F_2. Usually, class 10 cards deliver better performances but if you look at the list, some class 2, 4 or 6 cards actually perform better than some class 10 cards.

Huh, yeah.. That's weird.
But okay. I'm thinking of placing an order for the card "SDSDX-016G-X46". It is listed as "ok" on elinux, but I guess there's no way to really know if it'll work with the latest kernel etc. since the list is a bit outdated.

Can anyone give me an inclination towards if it will or won't work?

All I can tell you is that the two cards I mentionned working with the latest image provide good performance.
