In your case no. When I said that I was thinking that I remembering adding the rootfs to fstab but then it occurred to me that the reason I had done that was because I was using a two partition (ext3 and ext4) boot HD. I went back and looked at my single partition boot HD and I did not have the rootfs in the fstab. Sorry for the confusion.

As far as creating swap goes, I have read that creating a swap partition on a USB drive is a bad idea, however my Arch is running of a USB right now (/dev/sdb1). How do I create a swap partition on a different device (i.e. /dev/sda1)
