Pogoplug Mobile add USB connection to board

Postby pghmike » Mon May 20, 2013 10:03 pm

I would like to add, via solder, a second USB connector to my Pogoplug Mobile board. Are R315, C282, R344, and C273 the right locations? Alternatively, is there the possibility that a USB connector could be added from the location of the current USB port? Of course I am assuming that the Pogoplug Mobile board is the same as the later V4 board with SATA and three USB ports including USB 3.0. I want to install Archlinux and it appears that I will need two USB ports. One USB port would seem to be enough to run the Pogo as a web server, but I would like to use it as a network backup device which is unhampered by Pogoplug Backup. Pogoplug Backup seems unreliable at best (of course it could just be me). Also, would a USB hub do the job?

I noted on another forum that someone has successfully booted from the SD card, but I would prefer adding a USB connector.

If it is not obvious, this is my first experience modifying a Pogoplug and I am not too concerned about bricking.

Thank you.

There was a thread in here that showed the PCBs of Pogoplug v4 and Pogoplug Mobile. Related to UART pins. However, I can't seem to find it at the moment :(
The boards are slightly different: It looks like the v4 top USB port sits at the back of the Mobile. The v4 has an USB 3.0 controller attached to PCIe, so I doubt there is another USBv2 port on the Mobile's PCB.
However, it looks like the Mobile's SATA could be used when soldering a cable onto it.
This is just based on guessing on the PCB pictures; my own Pogoplug Mobile should arrive in the next few days, I'm planning to test SATA and Device Tree booting...

EDIT: Ahh, found it. Check the pictures in http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2284 and compare the PCBs. They are different.
