Kernel linux-am33x and PM Firmware

Postby falstaff » Thu Jun 27, 2013 11:12 am

Compiling the kernel linux-am33x fails with:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '$') make zImage
CHK include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h
CHK include/generated/utsrelease.h
make[1]: `include/generated/mach-types.h' is up to date.
CALL scripts/checksyscalls.sh
CHK include/generated/compile.h
CHK kernel/config_data.h
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `firmware/am335x-pm-firmware.bin', needed by `firmware/am335x-pm-firmware.bin.gen.o'. Stop.
make: *** [firmware] Error 2

I could easily solve the problem by downloading the firmware (as documented in the Gentoo docs)
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')wget "http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=am33x-cm3.git;a=blob_plain;f=bin/am335x-pm-firmware.bin;hb=HEAD" -O firmware/am335x-pm-firmware.bin

But, is this step missing in the PKGBUILDs?

The most recent build of linux-am33x built properly. http://archlinuxarm.org/builder/in-log/linux-am33x-3.8.13-4-armv7.log.html.gz
Are you building the kernel from our github with makepkg?

Yes, I used the PKGBUILD from core/linux-am33x/...

Your log shows that it was compiled, without errors. No idea what went wrong on my setup, I will try again...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
...
CC drivers/i2c/muxes/i2c-mux-pca954x.o
CC [M] drivers/i2c/muxes/i2c-mux-pinctrl.o
MK_FW firmware/am335x-pm-firmware.bin.gen.S
MK_FW firmware/keyspan/mpr.fw.gen.S
HOSTCC firmware/ihex2fw
...
')
