Samsung Chromebook Archlinux, did I do this right?

Postby Ownagecat » Mon Aug 19, 2013 5:11 am

Never installed archlinux (I'm pretty new at linux, just installed ubuntu once so I don't really know what I'm doing) before so I'm not sure how it should look like, I followed the steps from the guide provided for the samsung chromebook.

This is how it looks like when I load into arch linux with ctrl + U

If I did install linux correctly, what should I do from here?

Archlinux does not come with gui, it boots to command prompt and then you can start installing whatever you need. I would start with beginners guide at archlinux.org (not arm). Get familiar with pacman, various linux commands and desktop environments. Beware not everything in the guide applies to arm. You dont need bootmanager for example.

Thank you, I knew you had to start from scratch when using archlinux but didn't know that mean't from the command prompt.

I just went through the installation process twice and can't get my new Chromebook to boot into Arch. I get to Step 15 (at splash screen press Ctrl-U to boot from USB), but I just get a tone and no USB-boot.

I've confirmed that dev_boot_usb=1. I'm installing on /dev/sda (an external ssd). Any ideas on what the tone means?

It means it can't find it.

I was able to install and boot from a USB stick, but not from a USB ssd hard drive. (Note: the USB stick would only boot from the USB 2.0 socket and not from the USB 3.0 socket.)
