[Solved] Eclipse: i686 binary ?

Postby dhead666 » Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:18 am

Tested in Chroagh (Arch Chroot in ChromeOS) on a Samsung Chromebook (so it's the armv7h repository).

Installed eclipse and can't start it (well, I installed eclipse-cdt), and "# file /usr/share/eclipse/eclipse" outputs

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '/')usr/share/eclipse/eclipse: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, not stripped

Same as described in

Removed eclipse and eclipse-cdt from the repos.

The problem is that upstream they don't compile eclipse from source, but rather repackage the precompiled binary tarball available at https://www.eclipse.org

The information on how to compile eclipe is really scarce and 90% of the time refers to cvn repository which was deprecated several years ago. Git is available at git.eclipse.org but what to checkout, what is important and how to build? If somebody in the community has some time to work on it and contribute a PKGBUILD that would be great.

Is it strange that the maintainers have allowed the package to leave AUR and enter the official repository like that ?
Where that stands security wise ?
