Utilite XBMC performance

As I promised Pepedog in the thread that is now locked, I am here coming back with my experiences of the XBMC performance on Utilite.

I am using the git version of XBMC, standard Arch linux utilite kernel, and the libraries. I am very happy with the performance. HDMI-CEC works, picture and sound is good, at least for my standards. Feeling the top of the Utilite while playing a movie it does not feel extremely hot.

There are however a couple of issues:

1. XBMC sometimes crashes when starting a movie. This does not happen very often, but sometimes. It does not seem to be due to the movie since it may very well work fine after reboot.

2. If XBMC crashes and simply restarted, HDMI-CEC will not work. Needs full reboot for that.

3. HDMI-CEC only works for root user due to file permissions.

Now if I can work out what to change permissions on, I can fix. This pkg is used by a few platforms.

It's possible the movie crash could be interrupted on the stream, like network interface glitch. If you are streaming via network, which interface are you using?

Try running as none root user to see if libcec works

Adding the xbmc user to those groups does not solve the problem. I think the permission issue is in one of the library packages that provides the hdmi-cec libraries/files.

I am not streaming via network.

I have just fixed the cec permission problems on the dove version of cubox, should be able to fix this soon

It does however sometimes feel a bit hot when playing certain movies. What do you think is an ok maximum temperature? At the moment I am watching streaming video and the top of the utilite is so hot that I can only hold my hand on it a few seconds.

So I assume the temperature is ok...

To keep you posted I haven´t had any crashes in a week or so. So I must say everything is working well.

Any ETA on the HDMI-CEC solution?

Yes, compulab are very good at owning up if there was an overheat problem, so it must be ok.

The issue with XBMC crashing seems to happen when it is downloading something at the same time. Any ideas on how to fix that?
