Funny problem with my goflex home

Postby fchn139 » Mon Jul 07, 2014 6:00 pm

My GFH failed once again last week. It been failed serveral times before so I was not surprised. After plugin the USB flash drive I can boot the base successfully. I ssh into the device and evrything looks fine. The funny thing is : Once I insert the harddisk, the ssh will not recognize any command at all, it always says "bash, command ls is not found". I was thought the HD is dead so I pull the HD apart and insert the bare HD into my PC. The PC complians the HD is not formated but can find the disk. I formated it with NTFS and run some checks and everything is OK. I thought maybe the USB flash drive is bad so I re-built the USB flash drive and the result is exactly same. Anyone have faced a similiar problem before?

Thanks,

Yes, It will refuse to excute any command once the HD is plug in. The exist ssh session will keep alive but says "command can't be found" or something like it. A new ssh session will be rejected with some network error. If I remove the HD, the situation is the same unless I re-boot the device without the HD.

Do you have anything funky in your /etc/fstab?

The problem solved.
Attached the HD to my Ubuntu machine and deleted all partitions and re-part/format it to etx2 and everything is normal now.

Have to re-install every application now, and I feel so bad my little girl lost all of her cartoon movie's back-up. She has to dig-out the DVD if she want to watch some movies for awhile.

why not do a backup first? Also ext2 is not the best option if you are worried about data integrity.

There are nothing important on the HD, just some DVD back-ups, We still have the disc so it is not a big problem. I moved all of my personal data to my NAS after the GFH failed last time. Back-up will take some time also.
I agree the ext2 is not good but since the HD will be used for DVD back-ups, and most, if not all of these back-ups will never be used ever, I guess I will just live with it.
