Edimax wifi dongle in AP mode. Possible ?

Postby rjalex » Wed Oct 15, 2014 6:11 am

There are numerous guides to configure an RPi as a wifi access point but could find none based on Archlinux.

I currently have an Edimax EW-7811Un working well but I'd like to have it work in AP mode and define it's own mini wifi network so I could use my Archlinux RPi on the go using my smartphone/tablet to manage it.

Does anyone know if the current drivers will support this mode ? There are conflicting pages such as this (not archlinux based):

http://www.daveconroy.com/turn-your-ras ... s-chipset/

The key packages to have this working are hostapd and dhcpd ? (I do not need any routing just the RPi and the tablet connecting).

Thank you for directing me to any relevant source of proper information,

Thanks in advance

There was no patience here. I simply
  • entered the url
  • arrived at the page
  • entered my search query
  • submitted the search
  • examined the results

TL;DR - There is a wiki for a reason.

LOL no the reference to patience is not technical but towards my unfamiliarity with ALL of the Archlinux world. Have been looking at this for the first time just a few days ago and I'm still quite disoriented and yes I am aware of the power of documentation of any osrt but when you're still disoriented the problem is that you're even not aware of WHAT and HOW to look for, so thank for teaching as even though I'm an OLD dog I hope I can still learn new tricks :-)

Ciao !
