PXE (lan) boot from ALARM on Pogo-E02

Postby mpadilla2 » Thu Nov 06, 2014 1:02 am

Thought I'd share my guide. I keep notes for myself online. This guide is quite long so I'll just share the link: http://techieventures.blogspot.com/2014/10/netboot-lxle-gparted-clonezilla-from.html.

I used dnsmasq as a proxy dhcp to my router. dnsmasq also functions as a tftp server. If you have any question or feedback let me know.

If you'd like me to test something else out let me know as well and I will and post my steps.

Thanks for sharing.

I tried PXE booting from my TomatoUSB Router (Asus RT-N16) awhile back and performance was horrible (tftp performance specifically). The E02, I would imagine, wouldn't have any issue?

Performance was not horrible with E02, it was usable for my purposes. Granted, what's horrible to one person could mean usable for another. I just wanted a method for installation of distros on my computers without having to burn disks or flash drives. This method fits.

Yeh I think the pogo e02 would definitely outperform the rtn16. rtn16 only has 128mb of ram whereas e02 has 256. rtn16 cpu 480MHz whereas e02 has 1.2GHz. Looks like both have gigbit ethernet so that shouldn't be the bottleneck for the rtn16.

I also have mine configured with swap partitions.

The e02 is just all around great for a number of tasks. I find more and more stuff to throw at it each day. I use it as my media server, print server, pxe boot server, tvheadend backend for xbmc and other things I cannot recall at the moment.
