Raspberry Pi 2

Well, another Raspberry pi is out. The Raspberry pi 2. Seems like an interesting new release.

A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1
Broadcom BCM2836

Anyone wanting to try Arch on the new Pi as much as I do?

People should TOTALLY use the search functions of the forums.. Or even google.

We're now at 4 separate posts in different places! :)

Done a quick test on mine, tried Ubuntu Snappy Core (not impressed) and tried current build for model b, b+, and a (and others non rpi like odroid-w)

So, I believe kinda obviously, nothing works as expected. Different ARM so no surprise.

However, Raspbian works like a charm moving the same microSD card between the Pi2 and the old one without problems.
You boot on Pi2? You have 1GB of RAM and 4 CPUs at 900Mhz - You boot same card on Pi1? You've good old Pi1 and also a very visible lowered performance in bootstrap time and everything else I could test.

It would be cool to have same kind of magic in Arch, if there's anything you want me to test please let me know.

Regards

No, we will not be releasing a rootfs for this based on the ARMv6 repo, because that is retarded. You will not be able to swap cards with this distribution.

yeah, never go full retarded ... but I am not sure that's how they did in Raspbian - would it be possible to have some sort of dual rootfs or I'm just smoking unicorns and sci-fi ?

[edit] anyway, I don't even think that's a big deal, I just found weird and cool the current Raspbian ability.

They are sticking with ARMv6 software for their new v7 device for now, for who knows why.

Lazy, easier adoption.

Fewer confused users, because the are catering to the uninformed.

They're just using a kernel that will work for either board. (Isn't DT wonderful?! Honestly, this is the way it was meant to be used)
