Technisat SkyStar USB failing on RPi2

Postby Fruckiwacki » Fri Mar 06, 2015 6:44 pm

Hello,

currently I'm trying to run a Technisat SkyStar USB device on my RPi2.

Installed the device firmware like described here: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/T ... tar_USB_HD

journalctl:

Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: dvb-usb: found a 'Technisat SkyStar USB HD (DVB-S/S2)' in warm state.
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: DVB: registering new adapter (Technisat SkyStar USB HD (DVB-S/S2))
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: stv6110x_attach: Attaching STV6110x
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: technisat-usb2: i2c-error: 60 = 7
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: technisat-usb2: i2c-error: 68 = 65
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: technisat-usb2: i2c-error: 68 = 65
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel: technisat-usb2: i2c-error: 68 = 65
Jan 01 01:00:13 servicepi kernel:

"technisat-usb2: i2c-error: 68 = 65" error message then repeats endlessly when trying to access the frontend through vdr/tvheadend.

The device is working without problems on other Archlinux (x86_64, armv6h) devices.

Any help/hints would be much appreciated.

Edit: Its working on Raspbian wheezy, so I guess the problem is related to ArchlinuxARM (armv7h).

Could this be a power issue? Are you saying it works on Raspbian Wheezy on the same Pi 2 with the same power source and peripherals?

The device has external power supply - so should be no issue.

And yes, I did only switch the OS to Raspbian Wheezy. Same hardware/peripherals, same Pi2.

Somebody already had this problem http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 1&start=25 firmware not installed in the right place?

Hello,

firmware is installed in /lib/firmware.

I took out my old RPi 512 (armv6h) and reinstalled Archlinux|ARM.

dmesg:

[ 4.798264] usb 1-1.5: new high-speed USB device number 5 using dwc_otg
[ 4.908943] usb 1-1.5: New USB device found, idVendor=14f7, idProduct=0500

[ 14.704614] usb 1-1.5: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (Technisat SkyStar USB HD (DVB-S/S2))...

The device is working without problems/any error messages.

RPi2 behavior is different:

[ 5.592629] usb 1-1.5: new high-speed USB device number 5 using dwc_otg
[ 5.713383] usb 1-1.5: New USB device found, idVendor=14f7, idProduct=0500

[ 8.952864] dvb-usb: no frontend was attached by 'Technisat SkyStar USB HD (DVB-S/S2)'

Frontend is unavailable - On RPi2, frontend only becomes available when power-cycling the Technisat device while booting RPi2.

But then I have the initially posted problem: journalctl gets flooded with "technisat-usb2: i2c-error: 68 = 65" messages. Beside that, having to power-cycle the tuner when rebooting the Pi is no real solution :/

Edit:

Both Pi's had same (current) kernel and firmware installed.

Diff configs for v6 and v7 available on github. Maybe something in v6 didn't make it into v7 (doubtful but possible i guess). Is there more debug info available from the module? See modinfo <modname>
Also try this kernel (no highmem, less ram available) http://rollback.archlinuxarm.org/packag ... pkg.tar.xz

Hello,

diffed the configs, but nothing of relevance seems to have changed (as far as I can tell as a non-developer).

No luck with provided kernel - same problem as initially posted.

modinfo shows:

filename: /lib/modules/3.18.5-2-ARCH/kernel/drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/dvb-usb-technisat-usb2.ko.gz
license: GPL
version: 1.0

depends: dvb-usb,dvb-core,stv090x,rc-core
intree: Y
vermagic: 3.18.5-2-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload modversions ARMv7
parm: adapter_nr:DVB adapter numbers (array of short)
parm: debug:set debugging level (bit-mask: 1=info,2=eeprom,4=i2c,8=rc). (debugging is not enabled) (int)
parm: disable_led_control:disable LED control of the device (default: 0 - LED control is active). (int)

Tried activating different debug levels through /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf, /sys/module/dvb_usb_technisat_usb2/parameters/debug reflects my changes but modinfo still shows 'debugging not enabled'.

Modinfo is static, it doesn't reflect the changes. I am assuming 'debugging not enabled' is just the default. The main question is does it show more debug information?

Hello,

no debug infos in dmesg/journal.
