Bad instructions for ODROID-XU4, ends up with broken eMMC

Postby tirithen » Wed Sep 02, 2015 12:03 am

For all day now (and one half night) I have tried to follow, debug, and search for variations of the instructions on http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... odroid-xu4 to install Arch Linux on the eMMC chip of my ODROID-XU4.

If I follow the instructions exactly and try to boot the device, I only get a red LED (power led) lit, no fan (as when running Ubuntu) and no image on the HDMI display.

After a bit of searching in this forum and http://forum.odroid.com I find various people having the same issue. It seem to be related to uBoot being deleted by the dd /dev/zero command and not properly recreated by the script provided in the arch image. It might be something completely different.

Could the guide at http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... odroid-xu4 we update the guide to something that actually works? What is the current working solution to this problem?

I also found the instructions about creating eMMC wrong.
But when I skipped the part about connecting the eMMC module with miroSD adapter still attached it worked just fine.

Hello,

I solved this by install ArchLinux on EMMC AND on a SDCARD.
After that, connect the EMMC in is own slot and the SD card in is own slot.
Set the boot switch to sdcard position and your Odroid will now boot up.
Login as root and run the fusing script like in the install instruction
shutdown odroid
remove sdcard and set the boot switch on emmc position

Now your odroid will work on emmc as expected.
