Trouble printing Swedish chars via ssh

Postby nstr » Thu Nov 12, 2015 2:21 pm

Hello. I'm running ArchLinuxARM on the oldest(?) model of the Raspberry Pi and pretty much everything works great but I have a slight little annoying problem.

I ssh into the machine and I'm swedish and on rare occasions I use the swedish characters "åäö" and I want those to be printed properly but I'm experiencing some weird problems.

I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke ... in_Console and I now have

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'localectl status
System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
VC Keymap: sv-latin1
X11 Layout: se
')
and as far as I understand that should do the trick. On side note on my debian machine it looks like

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ' localectl status
System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
VC Keymap: n/a
X11 Layout: se
X11 Model: pc105
')
However I'm experiencing some problems, for example if create a file called test and edit it with vim or nano and insert type "åäö"
then I get "å ä ö ", a blankspace after every char. However if I save the file and do "cat test" I get the correct "åäö" as output.

When I type "åäö" on the commandline on my debian machine I get "bash: åäö: command not found", as expected but when doing the same thing on the raspi I get " -bash: $'\303\245\303\244\303\266': command not found"

When I talk to swedish people on IRC using irssi while typing and sending the message "åäö" I and everybody in the channel see it just fine but if someone else types and prints "åäö" I see it as "???"

Something weird is going on and I'm confused bu this. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
Since I only access this machine using ssh, might it have something to do with that?

Any help would be highly appreciated!
