No boot after update - SOLVED

I'm using a RPi 2. After installing Arch Linux Arm on this device, I tried to install various alsa packages but files were not found. When I used pacman to upgrade the installation, I was able to install the needed packages, but the SD card would not boot.

I re-installed the operating system and it worked just fine. Then upgraded again and the system failed to boot again.

If I can't upgrade the system successfully, I can't install the packages I need.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Used -Sy rather than -SyU. While this doesn't upgrade, at least I was able to install the packages I needed. The upgrade still fails to boot.
