Generic set-top box S905/Mali 450 supported?

Postby apaz » Mon Mar 07, 2016 10:12 pm

Hi all,

I will get my hands on a "set-top box" a friend got over in some weeks (ofc you don't say no to free hardware)
It's one of these Chinese boxes with s905/mali 450, 2GB ram
So my question is, are these supported? Odroid-C2 seems supported and it basically have the same specs, could I expect this to boot with the same image or doesn't ARM work that way?

ARM tends to not-quite work that way.

You're best trying to get your hands on the manufacturer's GPL release tarball to get the kernel

If you are super lucky, the C2 instructions might work, but it if they lined up anything differently in a dangerous way on the pinmux, you're going to have a bad day.

Apparently the new Kernel 4.6 gained support for the S905. You'll just need to compile one of the RC's and figure out how to boot it... Although my guess is, that not all peripherals are supported, especially not the Mali...
