Issue with Rockchip video driver

Just installed the rockchip video driver on my chromebook, but it fails to load the DRM module with the log saying that it "Cannot set the DRM interface version" and "Cannot open a connection with the DRM - Permission denied" whenever I try to start an x-session. Has anyone else with a rockchip SoC encountered this problem?
