Kernel for Odroid-C2 ?

Postby physkets » Mon May 23, 2016 3:30 pm

Hi!

I'm planning to get an Odroid-C2 and run ALARM on it.

I'm new here. Do forgive me if the question is stupid. The package for odroid-c2 indicates that the kernel is 3.14 But I thought that Arch always had the current kernels. Am I missing something?

Also, I know this may not be the right place to ask, but it looks like hardkernel supports ubuntu on the c2 by providing drivers etc. Does ALARM make use of that? Or is it at-least able to make use of that?

Does the ubuntu (16.04) also come with the 3.14 kernel?

Thanks!

ARM is not x86, so not all devices are /mainline/. Meaning, they are not supported directly by the vanilla linux kernel. The C2 is based on the AMlogic kernel code, and maintained by HardKernel. We simply package from their sources.

from advices , i noticed.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '

pacman -Ss odroid
core/linux-odroid-c2 3.14.29-21
The Linux Kernel and modules - ODROID-C2
core/linux-odroid-c2-headers 3.14.29-21
Header files and scripts for building modules for linux kernel - ODROID-C2
alarm/odroid-c2-libgl-fb r5p1-1
ODROID-C2 Mali driver (framebuffer)
alarm/uboot-odroid-c2 2015.01-5 [installed]
U-Boot for ODROID-C2
alarm/wiringc1 82.889d259-1
An implementation of most of the Arduino Wiring functions for the ODROID-C1 and C2

pacman -Ss uboot
alarm/uboot-odroid-c2 2015.01-5 [installed]
U-Boot for ODROID-C2
alarm/uboot-pine64 2016.05rc1-1
U-Boot for Pine64
alarm/uboot-tools 2016.03-1
U-Boot Tools

')

i report later after
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
pacman -S uboot-pine64 uboot-tools
')

i did this over internet and root is hard disk so i return home to correct sd card's boot.ini (=boot)
because my odroid-c2 cannot reboot  .

@WarheadsSE I see... thanks for the info.

@hatahata50 I don't quite understand what you did. Did you try to replace the odroid-c2's uboot with that of pine64? Is Armbian usually the ARM distro that tries out the newest kernel?

pacman -Q | grep odroid
linux-odroid-c2 3.14.29-21
linux-odroid-c2-headers 3.14.29-21
uboot-odroid-c2 2015.01-5

pacman -Q | grep uboot
uboot-odroid-c2 2015.01-5

I think the Pine64 uses an Allwinner Cortex-A53 CPU. ALARM does not have an Allwinner section under ARMv8 yet

It is there because we don't have separate repos per device.

Repos are per architecture generation.

We are not responsible for users making arbitrary and uninformed use of packages.

I see...

I found an odroid-c2 wiki page that gives its ubuntu release notes. I suppose those changes are ported to ALARM too? If so that seems like a good place to keep a watch on for updates.
