Reverting back to my.pogoplug.com operation

Postby coastal » Tue Mar 15, 2011 8:26 am

I'm not having great success with running Samba with Pogolinux so I was wondering what the procedure was to revert to a vanilla operation with the pink pogoplug. I understand I've got U-Boot installed. Presumably without a bootable usb stick to boot from it will kick in to it's normal operation and run hbwd as a process?

i needed to reinstall, and your idea did indeed solve my problem. yes, boot your pogoplug with out anything plugged in, and it will start back up. however, it will still have the hacked bootloader, so when it starts hwbd will not start. thus you will not see it in my.pogoplug.com, the only access will be to ssh into it. however, to get it working like a retail unit again, i'm not sure where to go from there. i presume you reinstall the old original bootloader.

would be great if you guys could contribute this to the wiki and anyone who knows more about the original bootloader can also add to it

You'll basically need to just set the CE fw environment codes.

cesvcid=[insert unit id from botteom of device here, in all caps]
ceboardver=[well, on a pro it's PPRO1, idk on a pinky.]

Thanks Warheads.

Can I just clarify then;

Switch on, ssh in.
setenv to on cesvcid and ceboardver.
saveenv to commit them.
reboot

No uncommenting in rcS?

Presumably doing this won't disable ssh. And I were to switch the env. codes back to what they are it'll drop back to it's current state where i can pogolinux at later date on a usb stick?

Here's the concept:

Re-enable any disabled features (such as hbmgr/xce), then set the uboot parameters via whatever command alters them (i dont know it specifically. I use a serial cable and alter them directly myself), and then reboot.

This should not interfere with running a Arch Linux ARM installation from USB in any way.

Again, I don't work directly with the V2 hardware, so I cannot speak empirically on this subject.

Thanks Warheads.

As it turned out the parameters didn't need altering and it was a case of just uncommenting the line in rcs. Rebooted and now runs the my.pogoplug service. If I can get xbmc to talk to the plug through upnp that'll be good enough for me but it's a shame I couldn't get samba to work with any decent performance. I might have another crack at it when I've got more time to spend.
