XU4 mainline kernel?

Postby normaal » Thu Jul 14, 2016 1:06 pm

Hi.

Any plans to change to mainline kernel on Odroid XU4?
Its seems to be quite usable allready: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f ... &start=150 .

With new mainline kernel I would hope to get rid of "usb3_resets" bug causing data corruption on my 4-drive raidsonic DAS device...

You can try yourself both stable and rc kernels are in repos
linux-armv7
linux-armv7-rc
Pogoplug V4 | GoFlex Home | Raspberry Pi 4 4GB | CuBox-i4 Pro | ClearFog | BeagleBone Black | Odroid U2 | Odroid C1 | Odroid XU4

thanx Moonman.

But what about uboot? Should i upgrade it when switching from vendor kernel to mainline?

linux-armv7 (4.7.0-2, build date Fri Jul 29 07:36:17 2016 UTC) will not boot on xu4, or at least there is no hdmi output nor eth traffic.

When installing new kernel, there is warning: "NOTE: Using this kernel requires an updated U-Boot!". Any instruction about that upgrade?

normaal did you have any success with this? I too am quite interested in running the mainline kernel, but haven't got any ideas on how to deal with the uboot issue that you describe...

No, i am on standby with this.
As i don't have usb-uart cable (jet?), i can't even see any output from board (hdmi stays blank)- so hard to debug.
There is hardkernel repo https://github.com/hardkernel/u-boot, but i don't know is there anything better to compile for xu4 mainline kernel.

I believe that it is not necessarily require to update the U-boot on the XU4. It shares the same SoC/kernel/drivers as the XU3/-Lite and they do not appear to require a U-boot upgrade, assuming you are already using the one from ALARM.

Downloaded fresh arm arch rootfs which contains new uboot and new kernel 3.10.102-3; updated; rebooted; installed RC kernel linux-armv7-rc 4.8.rc3-2 : my xu4 is up and running with hdmi display and network connectivity.
Then installed mainline linux-armv7 4.7.2-1 and xu4 is up with networking but wthout hdmi. Both kernels are dated as 24.08.2016.

/me very happy. Will be checking out usb3 stability as first thing.
