Raspberry Pi 3 aarch64, what's working (not)?

Postby loki279 » Tue Mar 07, 2017 8:04 am

Hallo,

I understand that many features aren't working on the aarch64 build for the RP3. What I cannot find is something like a listing of features that are working or not. Is there anything like that?

Thanks!

The official binary blobs for the VC do not function at all in 64-bit mode, so everything related to them is borked.

Is there a list what is included in the blobs? I'm new to the Raspberry Pi.. Using arch on x64 for some time though..
I bought the Pi to build a Dropbox replacement with nextcloud and a raid 1 set.. Most of the blob features should be not too interesting for that I guess. Does anyone know if the foundation decided to build support for aarch64?

My experience running aarch64 on a Pi3 for nextcloud and openvpn was bad (no GUI). I went back to arm7h. Interested to hear your experiences.

I didn't really start the setup yet, this is why I'm trying to figure if I should use aarch64 or aarch32. I was looking for the same, nextcloud, non-gui. So if your experience was bad I might just start the 32bit setup. What problems did you experience?

Well, you would be using armv7h (32-bit ARMv7 hardfloat, vfp-d16 binaries) or aarch64 (64-bit ARMv8 hardfloat binaries), we don't actually package aarch32 (32-bit ARMv8 hardfloat binaries)

If you don't care about the GPU, aarch64 should cover you, as most of /opt/vc/* is related to that.

Thanks for your inputs. I decided to build on armv7h for the time being. System is up and running very stable so fare. Still I hope there will be further development on aarch64 also on the blob side, as I still think its kind of a waste to have 64bit potential and not using it..
