I've managed to set up a serial connection to my GoFlex Home and got as far as this output:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'U-Boot 2014.04.R2-1 (May 15 2014 - 14:36:05) Arch Linux ARM
Seagate GoFlex Home
')

What do I do next to see why it isn't looking for an IP address? And what's missing so that it doesn't boot up?

If that's all you see then something is terribly wrong with uboot.

Try to use kwboot to upload uboot over serial and then boot: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,7852,7852

You can extract the binary from this package: http://ca.us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/ar ... pkg.tar.xz

No there is a lot more that comes up. I hadn't inserted a USB stick and it does say no USB devices available.

Unfortunately I have just erased the one I was using, in an attempt to recreate the correct filesystem, and in trying to follow the instructions

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
cd /tmp
wget http://os.archlinuxarm.org/os/pogoplug/mke2fs
chmod +x mke2fs
./mke2fs -j /dev/sda1
')

I get

zsh: exec format error: ./mke2fs

Can't I simply run mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda1 ?

Forget the last msg. The problem was operator error!

Following instructions here:

viewtopic.php?f=57&t=8222

I inserted my 8GB USB stick into GoFlex Home dock and got:-
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')** File not found /boot/uEnv.txt
Checking if uenvcmd is set ...
Running default loadzimage ...

EHCI timed out on TD - token-0x1f8c80
EHCI timed out on TD - token-0x1f8c80
** ext4fs_devread read error - block

Don't know whether this indicates a hardware error or a filesystem error. The ext4fs suggests to me that the filesytem should be ext4. I formatted using mke2fs - was that a mistake and how do I check whether my USB stick is faulty?

Also I'm not sure what should be in /boot/uEnv.txt.

It doesn't like your usb flash drive. Try a different one.

After getting connected using a serial connector I have learnt how to monitor the boot process, now I'm trying to work out how to control what the system does. I have a uEnv.txt which is configured to load Debian but don't really understand the parameters.

Can someone give me an example of how to launch Archlinux from a USB stick?
