force startx on boot

Postby charsi » Fri Jul 28, 2017 11:24 pm

Hi guys

What is the easiest way to get arch to 'startx' on boot even when no display is connected?

I tried
- creating a service following the method shown in this post
- adding hdmi_force_hotplug=1 to /boot/config.txt
but still no dice

To give some background I have got a raspberry pi running runeaudio which is based on Arch. I got some additional functionality out of it by mapping some hotkeys to trigger scripts that set GPIO pins on the rpi high/low. I used xbindkeys for this. It is working perfectly except I have to manually do 'startx'. If I can figure out this last piece my Hifi-setup would be complete.

Bonus question - Is there a way to get xbindkeys like functionality without running x server?

I didn't know these things existed. Although I don't need one now I might still buy one. I never actually found out if the rpi boots into a GUI if a display is connected. It was just a hunch that might be the reason.

I ended up installing triggerhappy daemon which works without x server and does the same thing as xbindkeys. Problem solved.
