Running pulseaudio for kodi-rbp standalone mode

Postby engarde » Sun Aug 20, 2017 9:10 am

Hi all!

I have been wondering, how can I get the pulseaudio daemon running for my kodi-standalone (kodi-rbp)?
The socket isn't being activated for it by default. I think it the Window Manager is usually the one to do this. kodi-rbp runs headless (or rather, uses a framebuffer - not a Window Manager or X), so it doesn't run for kodi-standalone when it starts.

If I start the pulseaudio daemon manually, kodi will detect it as an output (via the System settings).
My alarmpi distro uses Systemd, so I am thinking I may need to add a file or two to get pulseaudio running when kodi-standalone starts. Alas, I have never dealt with Systemd, and have no idea where to start.
Is it possible to ask for guidance how I can achieve the above?

Appreciate any help.
Best regards!

kodi.service is just running /usr/bin/kodi-standalone which seems to be a wrapper script. In it, it will start a pulse session if there is start-pulseaudio-x11 in the path, but as you point out, framebuffer isn't x11. Upstream bug?
