No "memory" cgrup controller supported by the new kernel

I've been unable to get systemd to return the memory usage value for my services for a week, at first I thought about its latest update, but it doesn't affect my x64 computer.

A developer pointed out that the new 5.4 kernel, is missing the support for the "memory" cgroup controller. Why is it turned off? What can I do to restore this feature?

Interesting, I wonder if this is why since the updated to 5.4 I have had all kinds of issue with the kernel 'oom_killer' being triggered when I start anything memory intensive. Like if I start xorg, then firefox, the kernel oom_killer will be triggered.

This is on a Rpi4 w/4G RAM, and everything runs perfectly fine on 4.19.

Kernel cmdline includes: cgroup_enable=memory cgroup_memory=1
