How to use ffmpeg-rpi?

Postby pim » Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:46 am

Hi.
As I understand it, it should provide hw accelleration for x265 under rpi3/4 with linux-rpi kernel.
But ffmpeg-rpi doesn't seem to contain executable.
ffmpeg-rpi-bin is incompatible with regular ffmpeg and cannot replace it since it does not provide libraries required by other packages like mpd ('libavcodec.so=60-64', 'libavformat.so=60-64'...)

Can somebody help me to understand how is ffmpeg-rpi supposed to be used?

The vlc-rpi package makes use of it. If you do not have a DE on board, you can use cvlc from the shell to do the same. If you want a GUI program to do it without a DE, kodi-rpi has its own ffmpeg (not ffmpeg-rpi but the same code) that can do it.
