I tried once; it didn't work. But I'll try some more once I get home today from work.

Thanks so much for the willingness to help this noob!

You see this with non-headless boxes, if you don't cleanly shutdown, it will want to do a fs2chk on the next boot, and drives can be flagged also to do this after x # of boots. I think I saw my drive would be checked ater 18 mounts when I formatted it.
fs2chk can either be real quick, or not, and we have no way of knowing (without a serial conn)
Or get another linux box to check it.

I unsuccessfully did about 10 attempts last night; looks like I've got about 8 more tries to go! :D

When I thought I borked my dockstar Arch Linux ARM install, I think this fixed it (was in a state of many attempted reboots).
From http://Arch Linux ARM.com/index.php5?title=Arch Linux ARM:Pogoplug_Setboot
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cd /tmp
mount -o rw,remount /
wget http://Arch Linux ARM.com/os/pogoplug/uboot/pogo_u-boot_install.sh
chmod 755 ./pogo_u-boot_install.sh
./pogo_u-boot_install.sh')
in the case of my dockstar, I chose option 3, then /sbin/reboot after.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to SSH into my dockstar at all. I can ping it, but I cannot SSH or telnet in. Attempts to SSH in are returned with "Connection refused".

I am awaiting my jtag thing to arrive with my guruplug, but see a serial option here
http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/11515/How-To-Find-mkfs-jffs2-and-other-tools-on-Pogoplug/?page=2#1692
All the parts are available from radiospares in the UK

JusRelax: Assuming that the bootloader installed correctly, your dockstar should be trying to boot from USB and, failing that, it should be booting into the regular pogoplug install. However, as you suspected, the 1.2.1 update disabled ssh and since the hbwd service isn't running, it's not able to start it back up.

I'm not sure why your USB device isn't booting, what did you try installing it on? You can try to manually install Debian on a flash drive and then boot off of that. You'll need a computer running Linux and a USB flash drive (not hard drive and not memory card reader).

Format the first partition on the flash drive as ext2. Mount the flash drive someplace like /tmp/debian and cd into it. Then run the following commands:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lenny/base.tar.bz2
wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lenny/sheeva-2.6.33-Modules.tar.gz
wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lenny/sheeva-2.6.33-uImage

tar -xjvf base.tar.bz2
tar -xzvf sheeva-2.6.33-Modules.tar.gz
cp sheeva-2.6.33-uImage boot/uImage

echo "/dev/sda1 / ext2 errors=remount-ro 0 1" > etc/fstab
')

That should do it. Plug the flash drive into your dockstar and reboot it. Once you get debian running, mount /dev/mtd2 someplace and then edit /etc/init.d/db and uncomment the last line of the file. This will re-enable ssh on the pogoplug installation.

If the bootloader did not install properly, or if #1 does not work, you can still recover by connecting a serial cable as described here: http://ahsoftware.de/dockstar/

Good luck!

-- Jeff

PS The install script has been updated to fix this problem and the earlier issues reported in this thread.

I think it is fine as long as people put the distribution/version in the title.

I don't want to sift thru the posts in here of the guys trying to get windows 7 running

Yeah other OSes forum is great, but i'm sticking with Arch Linux ARM linux, although i'm mostly a Debian guy.Archlinux is defenetly new to me.And i like that things are nativly compiled, that atleast givs us few more % on preformance...

An update -- I tried out Jeff's script to load debian from USB drive a few posts up; the Dockstar will go through the following phases:

1) flashing green for about 5 seconds
2) flashing green turns off, USB access begins, continues for about 3-4 seconds
3) USB remains solid (powered but no drive access occurs) while Dockstar light is off for about 2 minutes,
4) USB light turns off, and flashing green on Dockstar reinitiates; last about 10 seconds
5) flashing orange on dockstar, usb access reinitiates. Lasts for about 10 seconds.
6) tftp pings finally begin working as USB remains powered but drive access no longer occurs; flashing orange on Dockstar remains. Attempts to SSH in via putty lead to 'Network error: connection refused'.

Seems to me that the Dockstar is reading the USB drive correctly; however, the USB isn't doing what it should be doing during the bootup sequence. I've tried loading Arch Linux ARM install on the usb instead of Debian, and the same behavior ensues. I should be getting my serial connector hopefully within a week; I'll report back once I get my serial connector.
