The big limitation on the current platforms is the flooding of the USB bus. The USB 3 will most likely be sitting on the PCIe bus and will therefore give that bandwidth back. So, transfer rates from the USB 3 will possibly be as high as 60-70MB/s. So, when shuffling and moving files around on device, the new interface will definitely help.

Still doesn't include Samba natively, which is just atrocious.

Seems like discount is no longer applies by clicking on links, either.

Hi everybody. Is there any news on alarm on PPv4?
I would so like to install it on my device. Without alarm I cannot use it (had to buy now, because of the good price in the first few weeks).

ATM I use my PPpro with system on SATA port and a 4x-USB3/SATA-enclosure plugged into the USB2 of PPpro.

I regularly have to copy from one disk to another inside that box and the PPpro does not support PortMultiplying for the SATA - so I would very much appreciate the USB3-part of the PPv4.

Thanks so far!

We're still working on the kernel to get all the stuff inside to turn on properly, then we have the matter of uboot to tackle. When we have something to release we aren't going to be keeping it secret, be patient.

eagerly awaiting alarm for this device. thx to those making it happen

I tried getting freenas onto a goflex net with no luck.
Trying to find another option I stumbled onto this awesome site!
Are there any freenas style(web ui) frontends that play nice with this solution.

thx and good luck guys!

Tried to use optware in the time until alarm is finally ready for this device: It's a pain in the arse... and nothing is completely working as it is intended. I'm leaving this device unused until alarm is out... can't wait for it...

Because the stock u-boot is lacking, until I find time to get it into shape this is what I can offer (soon, not right now). The only bootable medium available to us is SATA, not any of the other ports. This means that you'll only be able to boot from, and must have attached, a SATA disk.

The kernel still needs finishing up, but once I have that complete I can write up instructions for others to boot ALARM. These instructions would be considered unsupported officially, thus if things break I'm not responsible. But if you guys want to jump in early, this is the best I can offer.
