PogoPlug boot problem

Postby timmypro » Sun Feb 17, 2013 8:43 pm

I have a Pogoplug E02. I mess around with uboot with fw_setenv and it does not boot up anymore. (no response to SSH, no status light on the device, IP assigned to pogoplug) I could netconsole to it and it shows the following when i reboot.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'U-Boot 2011.12 (Feb 20 2012 - 21:21:59)

fw_printenv output:

I tried to type some command like start usb but no response. I dont have serial cable. Any thought of how to fix it?

You've messed up bootcmd and your arcnumber is wrong.

Within netconsole:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'setenv arcNumber '3542'
setenv machid 'dd6'
setenv bootcmd 'usb start; run force_rescue_bootcmd; run ubifs_bootcmd; run usb_bootcmd; usb stop; run rescue_bootcmd; run pogo_bootcmd; reset'
saveenv
reset')

If this doesn't help, then show netconsole output without interrupting it.

Thanks for your quick reply. After using the settings u mentioned. I am able to SSH into it. The green light is on now. I probably need some time to find out the meaning of each parameters. Here is the netconsole output.

I think the device is looking for boot device and it was not there. Any thought?

Before I messed up the settings. I used instruction from http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... 2-pinkgray to make a boot image on usb disk but it didn't bootup. so I start to explore fw_setenv and see if it can solve the problem. That's how i messed up the settings.

Yes, does not see any USB storage devices. Is it a USB flash drive? Try a different one and use the instructions linked in my signature. Don't change anything in U-Boot environment!

Hi moonman, I tried all (2) usb drives that I have but it does not boot. This time i use hard drive and install arch according to instruction in your signature. I used lubuntu and use Gparted to partition my drive. I create an 1G ext2 partition behind existing ntfs partition. I set ext2 as boot partition, label the partition as rootfs and here is the netconsole output:

You did "sudo su" prior to extracting ? This is important to get the permissions right. Also, according to your U-Boot environemnt your rootfs partition needs to be ext3. For U-Boot it does not matter if the partition boot flag is set, what is important though is that rootfs partition is first on the hard drive, and is a primary partition.

Hi moonman, I think i have some progress for making an image to harddrive. I changed usb_rootfstype=ext2 using fw_setenv. Interestingly the line usb_rootfstype=ext2 does not appear anywhere in fw_printenv
