HEEEEELLLPPPP!!! My GoFlex Home bricked

Postby baigner » Wed Sep 07, 2011 1:33 pm

Hello!

My GoFlex Home isn't working anymore.
I did everything like discriped in the http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/seagate-goflex-home, but after step 19 the unit won't come up again.
There is only the yellow light blinking now.

What shall I do now?
There is also no possibility to restore it by the factory reset http://support.goflexhome.hipserv.com/en/reflash/index.html, because the reset button will not work (i think because of the new software on it)
I hope that anybody can help me with this problem ^^

Greetings
Bernhard

Assuming you're using the main drive with the unit for the install, you just need to pull that out, plug it into another Linux box, and follow the steps for partitioning, formatting, and re-extracting the rootfs tarball. What you did likely got corrupted by the stock firmware.. it doesn't play nice. Get it back onto the drive cleanly, pop it back onto the Home, add power and you should be fine.

Thanks you for your quick response!

Which tarball do you mean?
So I will take it out of the dock and connect it to my fedora machine, than I will format it in EXT3 with the gnome partition tool and put it back into the dock, right?

Is it possible for me to go back to the factory state by any way?

* Take the drive and connect it to you Fedora machine.
* Format the drive as ext3, and extract the armv5te rootfs tarball, as root. (certain point in the filesystem cannot be created outside of root)
* Replace in the GFH and boot.
