I cannot SSH to Pogoplug E02

Postby usawsn » Fri Aug 23, 2013 1:19 pm

Long story short, I recently got the Pogoplug E02 device and was excited to try out the Arch Linux. So I followed the instructions from here: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... 2-pinkgray

Everything worked okay except after step 9. After the command "/sbin/reboot", I waited about 1 minute and then tried SSH using the same IP address again to the PP. However, it failed. Initially I set it as DHCP (not static). Then I tried to set it as static IP based on its MAC address without success.

I am using the TomotaUSB on ASUS RT-N16 router. I checked the "Device list" for the router and could not find the PP anymore, with and without the USB drive attached.

I have seen someone mentioned that MAC address could be changed with USB attached, but mine did not work even without USB. So MAC address could change even without USB? My issue is that I set my router as permitting only specified MAC address for access, so if the MAC address does change, it will not be allowed to access.

Could you shed some lights for me? Your help is highly appreciated.

looks like the dhcpv6 duid mac address problem I had

read viewtopic.php?f=53&t=6003

pull usb and boot pogo stock, ssh in then plug in usb again

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
cd /tmp
mkdir usb
mount /dev/sda1 usb
')

find the lines in dhcpcd.conf, enable clientid, disable duid
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'vi /tmp/usb/etc/dhcpcd.conf
')

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# Use the hardware address of the interface for the Client ID.
clientid
# or
# Use the same DUID + IAID as set in DHCPv6 for DHCPv4 ClientID as per RFC4361.
# duid')

save file.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'umount usb
/sbin/reboot')

your router will pickup the good old mac address

Thank you.

I did follow your steps: pull out the USB, then boot the PP. It had Flashing Green light, not solid green.

My router cannot find this device, so it did not assign an IP address to it. The "Device List" does not show this MAC address either.

What is my problem here?

Thanks,

pull power off pogo, power cycle router, wait then power on pogo. see if you get solid green light. use this tool to scan your subnet, http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/ it may find an active device.

if still stuck, turn off MAC ip reservation in your router. or better, export config and reset it to default. it may cause unintended problems. you are trying to configure some geeky stuff, it's best to isolate pogoplug problems to itself instead of having other special configurations in your environment. it's just easier to troubleshoot while other environmental factors are eliminated.

RT-N16 would not have this problem, especially with Tomato (update from TomatoUSB by the way, it is getting old Shibby or Toastman mods are good choices)

Likely the problem is in something else. Netconsole log would be good. Also wait longet than a minute, it is not enough 5 min?
