Software installation possible on OXNAS

Postby Scarfish » Fri Jan 20, 2012 3:08 pm

I'm a bit of a newbie in Linux and came accross the Pogoplug, which I want to turn into a LAMP server. I'm thinking of getting me the Pogoplug Classic which seems te have the OXNAS cpu (found this in another thread). Will I be able to just install arm software packages on it when I've installed Arch Linux or won't that be possible since the sources of the kernel are under NDA? If this can't be done, how are sofware packages made ready for this Pogoplug?

The lower level processor information is under NDA. But, because Linux is under GPL....the source code for the kernel must be released. See ---> https://pogoplug.com/opensource

Ok, it was maybe a stupid question . So there is no limitation in installing software (except for processing power/mempory and size).

Yes, it is limited by processing power/memory. Apache will most likely run like crap. Nginx runs better, but some of the newer updates to nginx make is use the accept4 command, which is not implemented in 2.6.31. You might try lighttpd, but I've no experience working on that and whether it will work properly on an older kernel.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('xenoxaos', 'Y')ou might try lighttpd, but I've no experience working on that and whether it will work properly on an older kernel.

I have been using lighttpd with no problem. It's fairly slow, but not nearly as slow as apache. Once you have it running, you will want to add a code-reuse cache for php, which makes it run faster. I use eaccelerator for this, which I had to compile from AUR. It would be nice to have that package in a repository ready to install (please).
