Samba daemon autostart on boot

I can get smbd to work if I SSH in to the Dockstar and invoke

/etc/rc.d/samba start

I'd like the daemon to start automatically and tried adding smbd to the DAEMONS line in /etc/rc.conf but that did not achieve the result I wanted.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
