[RESOLVED]All ports closed! Can't access via SSH!

Postby geoffsmcdonald » Sat Mar 24, 2012 5:31 pm

I just installed tor on my Arch Linux ARM install(v3) and it asked me to update pacman.

Pacman told me that there was a conflict between udev-oxnas and udev so I allowed it to remove udev-oxnas and install udev. tor finished installing after that.

Whenever I rebooted I was not able to get an SSH connection with the Pogoplug. I get this message:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
ssh: connect to host 192.xxx.x.xxx port 22: Connection refused
')

I tried pinging the Arch Linux ARM install and got a response, then used nmap to scan my ports. I get:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'All 1000 scanned ports on 192.xxx.x.xxx are closed')

Is there some configuration file that would be closing all of my ports? Did the installation of udev or tor have anything to do with it? I would rather not start from scratch if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance.

Geoff

I went ahead and reinstalled (ugh) using the help! it stopped working instruction:

http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/pogoplug-provideov3

Everything was working fine when I reinstalled. I was able to SSH into the box and change my root passwd.

Then I installed the udev rules:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -Sy udev-automount')

and I got the same message:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ':: udev and udev-oxnas are in conflict. Remove udev-oxnas? [y/N] y')

installed fine.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ':: /sbin/reboot::')

and now I can't get back in.

It seems there is something that is going on with the new udev. I am not too familiar with linux so I don't really know much about this, does anyone else know what this might be?

You'll need to reinstall udev-oxnas.

If it asks this question, people need to remember to re-install udev-oxnas before rebooting.

@orney21d:

WarheadsSE is correct. You have to reinstall udev-oxnas. Apparently udev and udev-oxnas contain information for connecting to devices connected to your box, so when you overwrite udev-oxnas it messes up connections. I think that is why you can still see it, but you can't ssh in to it.

Unfortunately if you have rebooted and can't ssh into your ArchlinuxArm box, then you have to take your USB flash drive, plug it into a linux comp, reformat and extract the latest root file system to the drive. Better instructions can be found here:

http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6 ... provideov3

This will completely reinstall ArchlinuxARM, so you will have to reinstall your programs and you might want to make a backup of any important configuration files.

Whenever you are installing a program, it will ask you if you want to update pacman. If you say yes, then it will try and reinstall udev over udev-oxnas. I just say no and install without updating pacman, but it seems like WarheadSE is saying that you can update pacman and then reinstall udev-oxnas over udev (pacman -Sy udev-oxnas) and that will fix your problem. You might want to try that before you reinstall your programs if you are curious.

I upgraded with "pacman -Syu" and I tried re-installing udev-oxnas over udev and it still didn't work. Unable to connect to my PogoPlug, it keeps saying connection refused when connecting via SSH. What am I doing wrong?

You may need to reset your rootfs to the latest tarball. My guess: initscripts got upgraded too, and well.. that makes it mad.

I've already reset the rootFS like 10 times and upgraded each time and each reboot made SSH connectable. So I'm guessing the best action is to force it to not over-write udev? What is the correct command for doing that?
