Raspberry Pi Firmware

Postby alexanderhaensch » Fri Jul 06, 2012 8:56 am

I installed the latest firmware package and now

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cat /proc/meminfo
')
shows only 128MB RAM memtotal. This is in contradiction with the debian image where memtotal is 180+MB .
Has someone an idea why this is happening?

The qty of ram depends on which start.elf file is present.
cp /boot/arm224_start.elf /boot/start.elf
and the a reboot gives the most, the default start.elf comes from the raspberry pi github, they chose arm128

Perhaps there should be a poll on this?

No, the only thing I know that needs the ram more for GPU use (and not system) is xbmc, everthing else is fine with 224

This is pretty much how things are:

224: There is just and just enough space for the GPU to hold a 1080p framebuffer on the memory
192: Decoding of 1080p video should be possible, some videos might fail. Minor 3D usage also possible, but not simultaneously with video decoding .
128: GPU has enought memory to both decode video and use the 3D parts at the same time (XBMC)
