Generate live image

Postby cesarramsan » Sat Jul 07, 2012 6:12 pm

When I was using Debian, there was a set of scripts called Debian-live to generate a live Debian environment. In the http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms page there are links to devices and their live image to boot from, but is there a way I could generate my own live image?

And another question, how could I do it if I want to generate my own live image but cross-compile compile everything.

I know the debian world had a great tool called Remastersys.
Upon searching for an equal for arch I saw larch. I personally haven't tried it and am not sure if it will build on arm-architecture, but it's worth a shot.

Do you mean to create a live-boot, run onto a x86 system, install various programs, remaster the live and put it back onto a plug? I think making a live-boot of an arm will restrict it to run only on arm. I may be wrong, I've never done any arm/x86 cross-compiling myself.

I think I worded my question wrong, I dont want to generate a live image but rather the rootfs. I can cross compile using my RPI as a master and my desktop as a client, but right now my RPI can only compile to armv5. The RPI supports hard-float but the stock rootfs comes without this feature enables(as it would require to recompile and support another line of repos). I want to use my cross compiler to recompile all the core packages and then package them in a rootfs.

There is no simple way to do that in Arch Linux ARM due to the complexity. Have you ever built a system from scratch sources before?

By from scratch you mean like LFS? No. I used to use gentoo and so I am kinda used to compile packages/kernels and stuff. But I decided that I really didn't need all the optimization so I moved to arch.

You forgot
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
pacman -Syy
pacman -S my-cool-spin
pacman -Scc
')
