/lib/modules is just a link so shouldn't it be just

rm /lib/modules

I was also waiting for this to be magically fixed with time by pacman, but the solution of removing the modules directory and pcmciautils worked fine for me.

The fontconfig package is still broken though, but seems to be safely ignorable.
