How to remove SqueezePlug and install ARM

Postby rogerdygas » Sun Oct 14, 2012 4:07 am

I have a goflex net and have installed the squeezeplug software, it boots from usb.

I have decided I don't like it and would love to install ARM but at the beginning I get the below error. I select c and then u and carry on as per the wiki instructions but when I come to start uboot "./ubit_start" I get some sort of error about the directory not existing. If I then reboot my goflex net does not allow me to SSH into it.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot;WARNING: DOS-compatible mode is deprecated. It's strongly recommended to
switch off the mode (command 'c') and change display units to
sectors (command 'u')."

I have tried installing with no USB drive connected but again it wont allow me to connect to it, if I install SqueezePlug's recovery thing to nand it doesn't even recognize the fdisk command.

I have tried restoring the original firmware by following a post on here but upon reboot I cant ssh into the goflex until I recopy a new SqueezePlug image to usb.

Please can somebody help?

P.S. If possible please put all answers in idiot format as im not very good with linux im a windows man lol.

Since you installed squeezeplug before you already have the right bootloader in place. All you need to do is replace rootfs with archlinuxarm one. Follow the link in my signature. You will need to use your computer to do this.

Thank you for your help!

I have done as instructed in your signature, ive even tried it twice but my router still isnt showing any DHCP data for it although the light on my router shows its connected. The goflex net box has a solid green light.

I have also tried rebooting my router and goflex net several times.

That means you have done something wrong. Try formatting flashdrive as ext2 instead of ext3. You probably have U-Boot and not Ubit installed as a bootloader.

Let me ask you this. You are booting from USB and not SATA, correct?
If so you don't really need UBIT and everything I said above applies. So, if ext3 didn't work, format the drive as ext2. Make sure that you are doing "sudo su" before extracting tarbal (as in the instructions). Try once again. Maybe you'll get it 2nd time or 3rd time. Try to be patient. It may take a couple of minutes to boot up.

Thanks moonman
I have done as instructed I have tried ext3 and 2 and get the same results each time (nothing)

When I go to unmount the drive at the end I get this error, even though I have left it for about 30 mins before unmounting
/media/rootfs: device is busy.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ') (In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))

So I unmount from file manager.

The device being busy has nothing to do with time. If, for example, you have a shell with a current working dir on that device (eg you did cd /media/rootfs or any subdir of that) then when you try to umount you will get that error. Same if some program has a file open that is on that drive.

That is why it tells you about lsof and fuser which provide ways to determine what is "using" the disk still. lsof means ls of open files.
