sata drive not recognized after upgrade uboot and kernel

Postby hamal » Mon Nov 05, 2012 11:47 am

I've upgraded uboot and switch to kernel-kirkwood for few days.
Everything works fine except hard drive.
/dev/sdb and /dev/sdc are disappeared.
Both sata drives are unfound in dmesg.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hamal', 'B')oth sata drives are unfound in dmesg.
It appears you're using GoFlexNet with 2 SATA drives (in what enclosures?) or SATA Multiplier (what model?) with GoFlexHome. Install Netconsole, stop the boot and run at Uboot prompt:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'GoFlexNet> ide device 0
GoFlexNet> ide device 1')

Post outcome here. What drive you boot the device from?

Hi Hamal, which device are you using, and would you be so kind as to post the output of dmesg? I'm assuming you're booting with the SATA devices attached, correct?

It's a goflex net.
I attach two hard drives and share my file through NFS.

This is the dmest output:

Re: sata drive not recognized after upgrade uboot and kernel

Found the error:

Machine: Marvell SheevaPlug Reference Board

Your uboot env doesn't include the right arcNumber setting. You need to change that to 3089 so the kernel recognizes it's on a GoFlex Net with dual SATA ports and you should be good to go.

$ fw_printenv
Cannot parse config file: Invalid argument

$ sudo /usr/sbin/fw_setenv arcNumber 3089
Cannot parse config file: Invalid argument

I checked my /etc/fw_env.config and uncomment the lines for dockstar.
Try fw_printenv again and I get this error message.

$ fw_printenv
Too few good blocks within range

$ /usr/sbin/fw_setenv arcNumber 3089
Too few good blocks within range

Your best bet is likely going to be direct uBoot access, either via a serial console cable, or netconsole.

http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... goflex-net has some notes on using netconsole. Once you can observe and interrupt uboot you can update the arcNumber value from there.

I was unable to interrupt uboot.

With this command, I was able to see uboot messages.
nc -l -u -p 6666

I opened another terminal to send message.
I tried
nc -u 10.10.10.6 6666
and
nc -u 10.10.10.6 6666

when it started to count down in the first console, I stroke some keys in the second terminal.
but nothing happened. my goflex net just keep booting up.

You need linux. Mac or windows wont work. Fire up (k)ubuntu, either in vm or livecd. In VM make sure your network adapter is in bridged mode.

ASUC works in Windows XP extremely well for both watching and editing Uboot env in the same window. In Win7 you may have some issues with entering commands in ASUC. Don't forget to switch your firewall off. Also click inside the window, then Ctrl+J to interrupt boot. Keep repeating it until you get it. ;)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'M')ac or windows wont work.
