Does Installing Awesome WM also Install the X Window System

Postby haziz » Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:19 pm

I am trying to use Awesome WM as my window manager and installed it and it's dependencies using "pacman -S awesome". Does installing Awesome WM install the X window system as a dependency? I have not installed X separately and have been unable to start Awesome using startx after writing an .xinitrc file with "exec awesome" in it.

Thanks.

You'll need to install X as well. The dependencies don't reflect that, but since I assume you're not going to try and run it on Wayland you'll need X11.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'sudo pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils xf86-video-fbdev awesome')

You may also want xf86-input-synaptics and mesa, though it's totally up to you (and mesa probably isn't needed/useful here).
