PPv4: Attempted to setup netconsole, flashing green light

Postby winestock » Thu Nov 22, 2012 4:18 am

I was attempting to setup my PPv4 so that I could use netconsole from my Mac to monitor how the Pogoplug v4 boots. I followed these instructions: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3552.

These are the commands I used:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[root@MediaServer ~]# fw_setenv serverip 10.0.1.11
[root@MediaServer ~]# fw_setenv ipaddr 10.0.1.200
[root@MediaServer ~]# fw_setenv if_netconsole 'ping $serverip'
[root@MediaServer ~]# fw_setenv start_netconsole 'setenv ncip $serverip; setenv bootdelay 10; setenv stdin nc; setenv stdout nc; setenv stderr nc; version;'
[root@MediaServer ~]# fw_setenv preboot 'run if_netconsole start_netconsole'
')

I verified that the address for my Mac is 10.0.1.11 and the address 10.0.1.200 is available for use my the Pogoplug.

Now when I attempt to boot the PPv4 all I get now is a flashing green light. Have I bricked the device at this point? What do I need to do to get it back into a bootable state?

If I look at the DHCP clients on my network I see a client by the name Pogoplug at address 10.0.1.12. Does this mean that the issue is that I set the IP address to 10.0.1.200 when it should have been 10.0.1.12?

I did a revert and was able to restore back to the original Pogoplug firmware. I re-installed the Arm Linux uboot and I am back to running again. One thing that is confusing about the instructions here: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... s-ui-tabs3. The revert process, in my case, did not show a flashing green light then a red light. My revert was all flashing green light.

So I issued the following commands:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
fw_setenv if_netconsole
fw_setenv start_netconsole
fw_setenv preboot
shutdown -r now
')

When the Pogoplug reboots all I get is a green flashing light and it has reverted back to the original Pogoplug firmware. I re-install http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ppv4/ppv4-install.sh and reboot and I am back again. Why did it revert back?

Are you sure PPv4 u-boot supports netconsole? If you don't have a serial I wouldn't be messing with U-Boot environment.
