New black E02 won't boot

Postby Socaltom » Thu Dec 06, 2012 4:03 am

Got the a new 19$ plug, box says P 21 but case says E02. I cracked the case it's a v2, Marvel chip, no sata port . Anyhow ran the install per the home page using the pink/ gray v2 directions. The NAND flashed with no errors, I accepted the disabling of the pogoplug service, the plugged . Then I installed a known good ext3 dire and tried to boot, I get an orange light, but the HD light doesn't appear to be working, and I can't sash in with the drive hooked up. If i reboot with no drive I get the pogoplug prompt. Where do I go next?

I wpuld setup netconsole to see why it isnt booting. Or use serial if you have it.

The E02 install instructions state that you should boot from ext2, not ext3 and that ext3 is at best unstable. With my E02 I use an ext2 boot partition and and ext4 rootfs. There is a thread how to do that.

And of course the rootfs for the E02 is not the same as for the P21 or any other version 3.

I have no problem booting from ext3. Even though usb_rootfstype by default is set to ext2, it should still boot as the only difference between ext2 and ext3 is that ext3 contains a journal. You can mount ext3 as ext2 in which case the journal won't be used. Ext4 on the other hand, by default is not backwards compatible with ext3/2. The guide is a little outdated I think as U-Boot has been updated at least once since it was written.

I finally got back to it today. I plugged in a different drive, partitioned, formated extracted filesystem and it all boots like it should. I even converted the filesystem to ext3 and it still boots fine. I don't know why it didn't like the other drive, my pink pogo boots off of it just fine.
