Media server for Pogoplug running Arch?

Postby TheJayOJ » Wed Dec 19, 2012 4:56 pm

I want to be able to use my Pogoplug to serve pictures, music and videos. What are some media server applications that will run on my limited (in terms of memory, and cpu) Pogoplug?

Use miniDLNA. This is quet low in Ram Footprint and in using CPU Processing power! On some of my ARM devices this is what I am using.

But now I have a RaspberryPi with XBMC and I am accessing the Media through SMB.

Does it have a Web UI?

On a similar note, isn't there any other way to interact with and control my Plug, something other than SSH? I mean something with a web interface that'll allow for browsing files, media, queuing downloads and such?

Is there not a similar DLNA compatible server that has a Web UI for administration, and perhaps even for viewing media, one that is light enough for the Pogoplug to handle?

MediaTomb supposedly has a WebUI for your DLNA needs but it doesn't support the Xbox 360 (I use miniDLNA). Webmin can do most administrative stuff through a WebUI. Finally Transmission-cli has a WebUI.

No Xbox or any other console in the household. Media server required for desktops/laptops/phones/tablets.

Mediatomb it is then. Will try out today.

Will check out Webmin as well. Maybe that's what I am looking for -- ssh for everything is tiring.

I did install Transmission-cli yesterday. Wonderful so far.

There is a webmin plugin available for MiniDLNA: http://sourceforge.net/projects/minidlnawebmin/.
Haven't tried it myself.

MiniDLNA doesn't really need a web admin, though. Once you point it to the top directories where you keep your files you're set. Don't need to touch anything ever again. The beauty of *nix.

Or, am I missing something?
