Arch ARM and Raspberry Pi as a digital photoframe?

Postby Blash » Sat Dec 22, 2012 6:00 pm

So, I was out to try and find a digital photo frame for my mother this christmas. The original idea was to have the frame change picture every 24 hours, but I found out that we were talking minutes at maximum with the models I found. That is way too fast for my mother. One picture a day is optimal, I feel. She wakes up, walks out and is greeted by a new picture every morning. That would make her day, every day. And who doesn't like a happy mother?

So I thought, why not just buy a cheap monitor, a Raspberry Pi, and simply start a slideshow from Arch with my desired 24 hour timer?

So here I am, is it a feasible idea? Are there burn-in risks associated with showing the same picture for 24 hours straight? Is the power consumption insane? What software is good for this kind of idea? Are there actual digital photo frames that does this already?

Anyway, merry x-mas and thanks in advance.
