Yes that works as a faster backup; I already did that .

I can confirm my previous statement works: I just copied the September modules to /lib/modules and the kernel loads them. I think everything works now. Thanks guys! I hope someday the bug will be fixed though so I can update properly.

The 2 packages will be rebuilt again soon, sources have Linux 3.6.11

Is this happening on all revisions of the board?
I just got a rev B and installed Arch Linux ARM, ran pacman -Syu and then it was dead.

Do you have any gpu_mem settings in /boot/config.txt
If so try removing (shot in the dark)

No. All lines in config.txt are comments.

My board ist Rev B with mounting holes and 512MB RAM (called v2?).

SD-Card: Sandisk Class 10 16GB MicroSDHC

Don't know whether I got that right. Anyway I tried
gpu_mem_512=316
and that doesn't change anything. Pi still hangs on boot after one green flash.
