That's true :) The lights gives me some hope ... and says there is light at the end of the tunnel :) LOL

Thanks for your quick responses.

My main purpose of this is to reduce down the download bandwidth (as previously stated) but also ease of use on playbook tablet as my kids use it, and they just like to tap and play their videos under the video app ... I hope I can get similar functionality from my PogoPlug device.

If it will be too difficult to use, then my kids won't use this ... and will stick to youtube app. Do you know of any other device that I should look into (not very expensive though). I was first thinking of getting WDLive HDD Passport, so that it can directly hookup to my network, but then I saw PP, and read some reviews ... and change my mind about WDLive ... hope I didn't make the wrong decision :) LOL

Nah, if you can get into it (does it get a DHCP IP address? check your router) then we can get you running.

Yes, it does get a DHCP address, and I tried to get into it via SSH. I was able to successfully login to it. But it doesn't activate.

I just got a response back from PP support asking me to provide them with Kernel logs. As soon as I get home ... I'll send them that info, hopefully, they can find something there, and help me out ...

I am interested in alARM as well as it seems more powerful than the standard PP installation. What do you think?

I think if you can get logged into it, we may be able to fix it if it was altered prior to your ownership.

Hello again:
I am getting no where with PogoPlug support now ... they asked me to generate and post them the logs, but it has been over a day now, and no one has looked at my ticket.

Here is the error that I found in the log:
[000013.746][107386][TIMER ][08] Chose random NTP peer 'nist1-dc.ustiming.org'
[000013.811][107386][BRSOCK][01] Failed [gethostbyname]: 2: Host name lookup failure!

I see the "Host name lookup failure!" error repeatedly. So I got curious and googled the NTP server mentioned in the error list, and it seems like this server has been decommissioned. I believe this is the problem why I can't get my PP to boot up properly. Everytime I boot it, it seems like it is trying to access the same NTP server rather than other random server picks.

Do you know if there is a way I can alter the NTP server config, where I can specify working NTP servers rather than the bad server as it currently points to?

PS: I can SSH to the device, and can successfully login with "root".

Looking forward to some help.
Regards,

-Riaz

Great, this tells us the real issue :) You should be able to manually update the time via date command, then you may have to re-instate their services.

Can you guide me how? I have no idea on how to proceed? Any commands, or procedures that you can point me to would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. I am able to set the date and time. But I don't think that will help. The LED is still solid orange.

I need to know if I can update the NTP server configuration, so that it can point to a working NTP server. As long as NTP server connection errors are going to come up ... my PP won't get passed through it.

There is a series of things, but I haven't messed about in stock enough in a while. Would it be possible for me to a remote or ssh port forward?
